BBQ Bacon Apple Wontons – Dak’s Recipe Contest Winner!

bbq bacon wonton ghughes winner

Thank you to Dak’s Spices and G Hughes for a fun (albeit stressful hahaha) #nosugarorsalt recipe contest.  I entered not one…but four new recipes and as usual the first one I created was the winner.  Hubby enjoyed taste testing every one though and we have four new meal ideas so it’s all good.

BBQ Bacon Apple Wonton Winning Recipe!

Imagine my delight when I got this notification from egglette Kim E letting me know I won…I won…I WON!!!

Winner Winner BBQ Bacon Apple Wonton Dinner!

The prizes were wonderful and I so appreciate them for hosting the event.  What’s more?  Everything I made was so delicious and SALT FREE / SUGAR FREE thanks to Dak’s and G Hughes.  With a diabetic grandfather and mother, and water retention and kidney issues on both sides of the family this is my kind of contest!

BBQ Bacon Apple Wontons: 1 WW Freestyle Smart Point each

Yield 4 won tons

These are so quick and easy to make.  Hubby liked them with the G Hughes Hickory Flavored BBQ Sauce and the Honey.  Dak's Red Mountain Rub FOR. THE. WIN.  Literally 😛

Ingredients

  • 1 small Granny Smith Apple cored and cut into 4 wedges
  • 2 slices Applegate Sunday Bacon (or similar)
  • 4 Nasoya Won Ton Wrappers
  • 2 Tbsp G Hughes Sugar Free Hickory Flavored BBQ Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Dak's Red Mountain Rub seasoning
  • Non stick spray

Instructions

  1. Wash apple, core and cut into 4 wedges
  2. Place wedges onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet (you will not be putting the parchment paper into the air fryer...it's just easier to contain your mess)
  3. Drizzle each wedge with equal amounts of bbq sauce
  4. Drape one wonton wrapper on each apple and lightly spray with non stick spray
  5. Cut bacon lengthwise with a pizza cutter.  Wrap one half piece of back around each apple wedge to hold on wonton.  Use a toothpick if necessary.
  6. Sprinkle with Dak's seasoning
  7. Gently place in air fryer and cook on 380 degrees for 8 minutes (time and temp will depend on brand of air fryer)
  8. Remove with tongs and serve immediately.  These are good reheated though!
  9. Enjoy and get ready to make another batch when everyone asks for more 🙂

Notes

I had to make 3 "test" batches to get the time/temp worked out.  These did refrigerate overnight well and I reheated in the air fryer for just a couple of minutes.  I would not recommend storing them longer than that or freezing due to the apples.  They are so delicious you aren't going to want to save any anyway!
