WW (Weight Watchers) Chat #205: Say Hello to Unhelpful Thoughts

WW News December 2020:

  • Many areas of the country have returned to limited or no in person workshops as of now.  East TN has Wellness Check-Ins in several locations and will remain virtual for now.  Check Connect or ask your coach for more information
  • The Personal Assessment that you take when first updating to WW My Way+ is a ONE TIME assessment and will not be available to update at this time…so be careful (and honest) with your answers
  • If you haven’t already experienced this, you will only be able to access the WW Virtual Meetings on Zoom through your WW app and not directly through Zoom. This is intended to make sure that only those with current, valid WW memberships or are Lifetime can join the meeting
  • *Update 12.13.20: the information I received this week was even  more confusing than what we talked about last week. The “official word” I got was that you need a Monthly Pass to access the Zoom meetings. But there is still an elusive email about Unlimited Workshops and access to Zoom. If you know something, share it. If I find anything else out I will do the same!* There is an e-mail circulating regarding Virtual Workshops. We will talk about the more as I find out details but for now the email states “Important News About Virtual Workshops…Starting December 9, 2020, you will need to be logged in with an Unlimited Workshops + Digital membership on WW.com or in our app in order to be admitted into a Virtual Workshop”. As I said I am trying to get more info but this appears to be for WW International members only (we are in a franchise location here in East TN), and will allow access to over 400 workshops at a discounted lifetime rate. The stated rate is $34.95 per month for the lifetime of your valid membership as opposed to the standard monthly rate plan of $44.95. Also according to the WW website these states are not affected and these rates are not applicable because they are “non-participating franchise locations” including: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Main, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah.

Last week’s Chat #204 “Find the JOMO* in Saying No”, left a lot of us saying, “Whew, this holiday was the most relaxing because I didn’t feel pressured to________” Reasons to find Joy in missing out ranged from less dirty dishes to more time to build snowmen!

Your #jomo homework for this week was to find the joy in missing out on something you decided to say no to. Let’s see how you did!

  • Lynn knew she wanted to enjoy dessert for Christmas but didn’t want to buy a full-sized pecan pie since she knew she’d be by herself. Instead, she chose to order an individual-sized pecan pie with her grocery pickup, counted her 10 points, and enjoyed every bite!
  • Katy wasn’t able to be with her family for Christmas this year, but instead of feeling sorry for herself she made the best of a bad situation and used the opportunity to deep clean her apartment.

Bravo ladies, you nailed it!

This Week’s Topic: Say Hello to Unhelpful Thoughts

Hello to unhelpful thoughts? I thought we were supposed to push them as far down as we could and then stuff some food on top to make sure they stay there…

If you’re like me, when an unhelpful thought pops in your head you do one of two things: 1) pick another unhelpful thought to keep the first one company or 2) try to push the unhelpful thought so far down that it won’t resurface. #1 starts a vicious cycle for me of refusing to admit I had the thought by…you guessed it…having more thoughts and then feeling bad for having them. #2 always involves using food to “push” the thought down, down, down and usually makes me so sick I don’t remember what the first thought was that started the whole thing

But what if we say “hello” unhelpful thought, what are you doing there and what should we do about you little fella?

  1. Name it. Notice I called it “little fella” because the unhelpful thought is rarely as big of a deal as I’m making it.
  2. Claim it. If it helps write it down, but try to take just a moment to claim what’s really going on “I didn’t track today and it makes me feel so ____________”
  3. Reframe it. After you write it down let it go.  Seriously.  “I didn’t track today and it made me feel so _______.  But I’ve already tracked breakfast for tomorrow so I’m already back on track!”
