This blog is dedicated to my fearless Weight Watchers leader Gwen. She is the bravest and most transparent weight loss partner I have. After five or six half hearted but well meaning attempts with WW before, my dear friend Karen and I decided to give Gwen’s group another go. This time was different though…we were both staring down the barrel of the big five-o ( although Karen much closer to the barrel than I was hahaha!) and I was dealing with aging parents who both had significant health issues as a result of years of food abuse (and in my father’s case alcohol abuse as well). I wasn’t going to let my lifestyle lead to insulin shots and dialysis like it had them, this egg had to be cracked!
Cue Gwen. If you need to turn yourself in for the very first time or a half dozen tries later, you want a chick like her in your weight loss hen house. A word of encouragement, a knowing glance, I could keep going but just suffice to say I wish every Weight Watchers group had a Mother Hen like her.
The yolk of the story…among the many Gwen-isms we enjoy each week like finding an Accountabilibuddy, referring to naturally skinny people as “civilians”, and a quote to close the end of each meeting, my favorite all time ism is Gwen’s confident declaration that no matter what else you have in your fridge “If You Have An Egg, you have hope”. An egg could be just that, an egg. Or it could be a salad, a sandwich, an ingredient in an infinite number of meals or recipes. Gwen is right, if you an egg…just one egg…you have hope.
This is my egg. And I pray it gives you hope.
