I failed to plan, but I did not plan to fail!

In the real world I own my own business, an always busy currently thriving local small business and I have to tell you being woman owned does sometimes have it’s advantages. And many times it’s disadvantages as well. Customers come to us because a woman cares about their project, is sensitive to the many times emotional decision they are making, and as a woman understands that they may choose their new kitchen on the first visit…but doesn’t lose patience when it take two, three or even ten trips to decide.
Because of the expectation that woman owned sets and because I always try to be available, most days I am lucky to get a potty break much less sit still to eat lunch. This isn’t new. This is going to happen every day. Yet no matter how hard I try to plan what and how I’m going to be able to eat I fail. I fail to get my lunch assembled before someone comes in asking for me. I fail to get my food out of the microwave before someone else puts theirs in between customers. I fail to consume preprepared fruits and veggies before they turn into an unrecognizable goo. But here’s what I don’t do. I refuse to plan to fail.

Today was a perfect example. Husband got to come home for a quick stopover between jobsites so I didn’t assemble my lunch. Ingredients for a lovely tuna salad are still in their respective containers in the bottom drawer of the showroom fridge. Lots of customers who saw my Woman Owned ad in the local paper Sunday (yay!). Suddenly it was 3pm and the only thing my tummy had to show for the day was a mini naan, a hard boiled egg, and two cups of coffee. Not exactly what I would recommend to stay full, satisfied and on track!

Stop. Think. So you failed to plan Kelly, don’t top it off by planning to fail. Old me would have said “well forget it now, poor pitiful you, eat everything in site and you will start again tomorrow.” WWNMD? (What would new me do?)

Stop. Recognize I am hungry and stop now, not later, now and eat a healthy snack that would stick. Today I made it a banana and a Quest bar. It took me 2 customers and 15 minutes to eat them, but because I could sneak in my office and break off bite size pieces it worked

Stop. Call, text or email someone and tell them what I’m eating. Saying it out loud makes you infinitely more likely to eat what you said rather than playing what my WW leader calls refridgerator roulette later. Remember the husband who came home early? I texted and told him I would like a date night to split a pizza at Brixx. Took him two seconds to be on board and kept me to 16 satisfying points for dinner

Stop. Make a ready to eat, easy to eat meal to grab and go for tomorrow. Or accept help if someone offers it. As I was leaving Expeditor Bobbie asked if I wanted her to make Avocado Egg salad for tomorrow and she had already checked to see if I had more romaine lettuce. Yes ma’am, please and thank you!

Go. To bed early. Go. Get some rest. Go. Forgive yourself and move on to the next day. Go. Outside and play. It’s ok, it’s life, it’s going to happen. But what happens next is all up to you.
