News and Reviews

  • Today is the first day of the “Move It!” Challenge hosted by Julie over on the If You Have an Egg Facebook Group. Hop in any time, it’s not a competition with anyone but yourself!
  • The desktop version of WW is officially….well…naked.  I was expecting features and functionality to be less but wow. You have only three options to choose from if you are desktop only: 1) scan a QR code to download the app on your smartphone or tablet; 2) Find a Workshop (both virtual and in person if available in your area); 3) View and Download the Program Guide.
  • Today is Cinco De Mayo, let’s celebrate in the second half with an exciting meal!

Last week was Chat #362 “How To Make Grocery Shopping Easier!”

Are you a:

-List Maker / Keeper?

-Aisle Wanderer?

-App Lady all the way?

None of those three is right…or wrong…but recognizing how you decide what goes in your cart (whether physical or virtual) can help make your grocery shopping easier!

Pro tips for hacking that grocery shopping:

App Lady all the way

As much as Covid stunk, it introduced so many of us to doing our grocery shopping with an app like InstaCart, Thrive and even Door Dash Grocery Delivery. If you haven’t tried it you can usually get the first delivery free to just check it out. If you’re a pro like my daughter’s neighbor you already know these grocery shopping benefits of being an App Lady:

  • No kids or spouses sneaking things into the buggy while you aren’t looking
  • No “in the moment” shopping while you’re hungry or distracted
  • Forgot your shopping list? No problem! Most of those apps store your most common purchases so you never forget something you always keep on hand

Aisle Wanderer

I’ll admit it…this is me. I am at the age where I can wander around the grocery store with no one in tow and just relax while I check out new labels or scan item after item. This method isn’t for everyone but I find it helps me hack that grocery shopping by:

  1. Finding sales I didn’t even know existed (and sometimes free oat milk!)
  2. Keeping me interested by introducing new items or finding new things
  3. Some weeks our meal plan is literally the prize from the grocery scavenger hunt game. It gets pretty interesting some weeks getting home and finding out what I can make!

List Maker / Keeper

If making lists and checking them twice is your thing, more power to you! Even if it’s not check out this new feature on your WW App to make grocery shopping lists easier, meal planning a breeze, and never be caught off guard without an ingredient for a recipe again!

Your homework was #ShowMeYourList. This week’s homework is so much fun even if you don’t like making grocery lists! Just open your WW app, check out the new feature I just told you about and show us what’s in your grocery list!

  • Sylvia’s list was full of staples she needs to keep her kitchen ready!
  • Melisa’s grocery list helped her get ready for lasagna for dinner!
  • Julie spent quite a bit of time checking the grocery list feature out for us, see her likes and dislikes so far over in the IYHAE Facebook Group!

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: “How To Make Healthy Eating More Exciting!”

There is literally nothing worse than looking down at an empty plastic container and thinking “well that didn’t look anything like the box….”

If you joined Julie’s “Colorful Plate” challenge last week (or even just watched from the sidelines) you can see that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring, bland or void of color. Let’s explore some ways to make healthy eating more exciting!

Pro tips for some pizzazz on your plate:

Set the Scene

Some simple but effective ways to make your healthy meal more exciting!

  • Eating a salad from a plastic container at your desk sounds enticing huh (not). But throw in a blanket and a book and you’ve got a great little picnic headed your way!
  • Remember sitting down at the table with your family and eating off real plates? Those days don’t have to be in the past, even a simple place setting with real plates can reset the mood!
  • Several members have mentioned that the simple act of lighting a candle at dinner time seems to slow everyone down a little. Just relaxing while you are eating can make the meal itself more exciting!

A Place for Plates

You don’t have to spend alot of money on fancy dinnerware, but a few inexpensive, interesting and appetizing plates or bowls CAN make a difference. Any chance you are able:

  1. Cut take out pizza slices in half, add a colorful salad, on a real plate and see how enjoyable ONE slice is versus standing at the box and grazing
  2. Take yogurt, cottage cheese or frozen meals out of the plastic and put them in a real bowl or cup with your add ins for a fun treat!
  3. Make it colorful, we just wrapped up the colorful plate challenge with Julie over on the IYHAE group and those were some pretty paper plates to fine china and everything in between!

Pizzazz On Your Plates

Every meal you prepare yourself is an opportunity for a little pizzazz. Whether it’s made from scratch or microwaved from a box, there are so many possibilities. Check out how I pizzazz a Cinco De Mayo plate in the second half of tonight’s chat!

Extra Credit: Pizzazz On Your Plate: Cinco De Mayo Style!

How many of you start your WW journey like this: “I’m on a diet now, I need to keep track of my foods, so I’ll just grab one of those frozen healthy meals.”

We all do it, myself included. Grabbing a Lean Cuisine and popping it in the microwave is a really simple way to keep yourself on track. But is it fun? Not really. Is it exciting to eat out of the sad little plastic bowl it comes with? Not at all. So for today’s recipe, I’ll be showing you how to make some Cinco De Mayo fun and how to spice up one of those boring frozen meals.

The full recipe will be posted as a dedicated post, but this is a list of all the things that you need to create the pizzazz on your plate:

  • A frozen meal (recommended, a Protein Kick Lean Cuisine Unwrapped Chicken Burrito)
  • Low Fat Refried Pinto Beans or Black Beans
  • Air Fryer Charred Poblano Pepper
  • LaBanderia Carb Counter Street Taco Tortilla
  • Cilantro Microgreens
  • Low Fat Sour Cream

This recipe is so delicious, easy, and most important… pizzazz filled and exciting!

What would you add to your frozen meals to make them full of pizzazz? Let me know in the comments below!
