The month’s theme is “Build Confidence” and will focus each week on a different way to remind us that feeling more confident can help with our weight loss and well journey!

Last week during Chat #233: Feel More Joy! we discovered that being in awe can be an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, fear, etc., produced by that which is grand, sublime, extremely powerful, or the like.

If you’ve been feeling a little unmotivated to exercise, track, follow the program…or (fill in the blank) ________ you might need to find a little more awe in your day! Finding a little reverence, admiration and being inspired by some awe can bring you more joy. How can you find some awe?

  • Enjoy the moment: Instead of spending time on your phone or checking email, take a moment to look around and enjoy the moment you’re in – no matter how simple the moment may be
  • Unplug: We all spend entirely too much time on your phones. Leave your phone in your purse and be present during your day.
  • Be mindful: Pay attention to the things that go well for you. We’re so quick to focus on things that went wrong, but if we look for the good we’ll find it.
  • Look around: Enjoy your surroundings and take a moment in your day to look around to see the things you might otherwise miss.

Your homework for this week is #EnjoyTheAwe. Slow down, look around, unplug and find some awe in an otherwise normal activity this week…and then type it, snap it, however you want to share it and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Let’s see how you did!

  • Mary Ann was cutting the grass and sat down on my swing outside to take a rest. She sat down, got quiet, and took in allllll the sights and sounds of nature going on around her!
  • Linda said the heat of the day was gone and she found herself in a lovely summer evening instead of getting caught up in the things she needed to do inside her house. She reminded me that fall and winter would be here soon and to take advantage of these long summer days while we can!
  • Bertha says mornings outside are her favorite. She has wind chimes on her porch, can hear a dove cooing and a crow calling in the distance. She had thunderstorms in the area and it was a nice cool morning. I want you to stop, close your eyes and hear the wind chimes, imagine the dove and crow, and then feel that electricity in the air making it clean for you!

Bravo, you nailed it!

This Week’s Topic: 3 Good Things!

Y’all know by now that I love things that come in threes. Instructions. Ingredients. Ideas. But what is the significance of the number 3?

Whether you study the Bible, dabble in numerology, or are just a noticer of patterns you have undoubtedly run into significant things that come in 3’s.

  • The Bible has over 467 references to the number 3 including – Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
  • A day has three parts – Morning, Noon, and Night
  • There are three primary colors – red, blue and yellow
  • Luck comes in threes – Third Time’s The Charm!
  • Even summoning the undead – Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetle…..

So why choose 3 Good Things to focus on every single day?

  • Easy: Just thinking of one good thing doesn’t really seem like it’s important enough to do does it? And 5 well…I’d forget what I was supposed to be doing before I got past 4. Nope, 3 seems like just enough.
  • Effective: Taking time to think of three good things (especially if you write them down!) can be an effective way to shift your mindset. And happy people make better decisions!
  • Everyone: No matter what’s going on everyone can find three things to be grateful for.  Mother has a meltdown at the facility where she lives? Be grateful the right person has your phone number and cares enough to call you. Granddaughter has a bad accident on the way to church? Give thanks that the entire congregation knew about it immediately and could send up prayers for the EMT’s and for her injuries. Chose the wrong laptop on Amazon? Be thankful and amazed that Kohl’s is now a drop off point and you don’t have to figure out how to return it.

See how this works? And see what I did there? I still made it about threes 🙂

This Week’s Homework: #3GoodThings

Your homework for this week is #3GoodThings. While I wish you would do it every day, for your homework you just need to pick one day this week and write down 3 Good Things….and then type it, snap it, however you want to share it and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #3GoodThings and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Pick Two

Even if you’re new here, you know that we’ve been back to in-person here in Knoxville for two weeks now. Let me tell you, I am so excited to be back and get back into gear!

In preparation for going back in-person, I decided I was going to get back to meal planning and plan out my meals for 4 days. I only got derailed once for a business dinner, but I still managed to make good choices in spite of my plan being disrupted. That meal plan included things like hard boiled eggs with a variety of DAK’s spices, yogurt, granola, smoothies, waldorf chicken salad, and my favorite buffalo chicken dip.

After all of this, my weight loss for the first time back to in-person workshops was 2.4 pounds!

For our extra credit today, grab a pen and paper – we’re going to recenter and refocus together. We’ve all left a difficult year behind and we need to take a moment to get back to basics.

Write down 10 “tools” that you know will work for you. Here are some of mine:

  • Tracking
  • Meal prep
  • Walking twice a day
  • Eating vegan with my mom once per week
  • Attending meetings
  • Making sure to eat lunch at work

Now take that list and pick just two out of your ten that you’re going to focus on using to be successful this week.

What are your tools? Drop them in the comments and let us know! Your tool might inspire someone else.
