News and Reviews January 2023

  • Happy New Year! Let’s make this one count!
  • Yesterday was Alyssa’s fifth birthday and the day before that was Casey’s birthday. To say I’ve had my fill of cake is an understatement LOL
  • We will talk more in the second half but we are officially at FIFTY PERCENT off all retail items in the showroom. They are already marked 25% off  and you can use coupon code CLEANOUT at checkout to take an additional 25% off!! I wouldn’t wait too long to take advantage of this one because it includes Dak’s Spices, Food Huggers, Souper Cubes (SOLD OUT!), Pedal Java Coffee, Wet It Cloths, and all your faves! When these items are gone they are gone, so just go to www.ifyouhaveanegg.com/shop or directly to kckitchencenter.com and check out the deals!

Last week in Chat #300 End The Year With Intention, I decided no more resolutions!

I’m not setting resolutions for this new year, I am setting intentions instead. I don’t want any more empty promises to myself. No more pie in the sky, won’t make it past Jan 15th ideas of what the new year should look like. The Weekly this week nailed it, let’s not complicate matters by making up fancy and cutesy titles for these little boxes. Last week I told you to go to the Discover tab to check out the topic….that’s all changed so stay tuned in the next part to see how!

I Value
I want you to say that out loud. “I Value”__________ and then insert something here. Did you say I value time spent away from my grandkids? I value taking handfuls of medicine and/or shots so I can keep eating cookies? Yeah…I didn’t think so. Shout out your answers!

I Intend To
Notice that it doesn’t say “I promise to” or even “I really really want to.” It says I intend to. In an article from nutritiouslife.com I found another wow statement.
Listen to what Yoga coach Danielle has to say about this “The resolution problem lies in thinking that we aren’t “good” enough the way we are, and that we will be better or happier when we get something else, or change who we are.
In setting an intention, you resolve that you’re already “enough,” so you move forward without having an attachment to the outcome – it’s more about the journey. You might still want to lose 10 pounds, but it isn’t focused on skinny jeans, it involves caring enough about yourself to eat good food and exercise. Naturally the pounds come off, but it’s not because you need to change who you are.” Wow.

I Can
Again. Wow. Now that you have shouted out loud what you value and understand you are moving forward without having an attachment to the outcome, list 3 things that you “can” think, do, remember, whatever…you CAN!

Your homework for last week was #NoResolutions. Last chat I didn’t want to hear any new year resolutions, no unrealistic wish lists that involve changing who you are. NO RESOLUTIONS! Instead tell us what you Value, something you Intend to do in 2023, and what you Can think, do, remember, whatever you CAN…. and then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Let’s see how you did!

  • Sylvia has been working hard on her homework this last couple of weeks! This week her “intention” is to be more mindful and actually enjoy her food rather than eating without even thinking about what she’s doing!
  • Mary Ann has been a faithful WW’er for years. No misguided or unrealistic resolutions for her. This year she headed back to the basics so she can make this a lifestyle and not just a diet!
  • Lynn has decided to stop playing the weight loss roulette wheel and is focusing 2023 to a healthier, happier and best mother and grandmother she can be year!

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: Happy New Year!

I decided to make this week’s official topic title “Happy New Year!” because A) I wanted to wish each of you a Happy New Year and B) if I called it “Where the heck did the Discover tab go?” I may not have had as much participation LOL

Ok let’s go ahead and address the elephant in the room. The Discover Tab….is GONE! Do you even know how many times I’ve said “go to the Discover tab at the bottom or your app and….”   I don’t know how many either but it’s a lot. So here is what I do know:

The Chef’s Hat

The Discover Tab has been replaced by a Chef’s Hat icon.

Positives for the Chef’s Hat Icon:

  • You can quickly find recipes you have saved, created or create a recipe
  • Featured recipes and “what’s in your fridge” are easy to find now
  • There is a pretty extensive set of groups of recipes like: Starter recipes, Best Breakfasts, Snack Attack and more

Negatives for the  Chef’s Hat Icon:

  • It’s not the Discover Tab 🙁

Enjoy the scavenger hunt

I hope you enjoy scavenger hunts because that’s what you are getting ready to go on! Y’all know I love change and usually embrace it. I also like games and love playing them. This was not fun. And I am not currently embracing it. This was so hard to figure out in fact that I had to reach out to several people and then look up an article on Connect to find it. And even at that it was still not simple. Here are the deets:

  1. There is no more Discover Tab. Did I mention that?
  2. There is no where on your app to go straight to the weekly topic
  3. I posted a video on both Reels and YouTube to show you what I went through to find it
  4. From your app you will have to follow @ww_techniques on Connect and/or search the same to find the weekly topic
  5. If you happen to be on Connect on Sunday, and if you happen to have your settings on “trending,” you may happen to see the new topic for the week. But after Sunday each week you’ve got to dig a little and go back to @ww_techniques and scroll to the topic for the week. Every. Single. Time. For now.
  6. If you are looking for the Weekly Topic from a desktop it’s a tiny bit easier. From the home page go to “Living WW” → Weekly Topic. Whatever you do though DON’T try to find this from Connect on a desktop. Why? Because you can’t search for @ww_techniques *sigh*

There is only one way back(wards)

Please pay attention to this one! You used to be able to go back and see the weekly topic from prior weeks. Now you can ONLY do that if that topic is in the current month. Meaning if you want to go back and see a topic from December you are out of luck. I did find one loophole, HOWEVER it only works for December and isn’t worth telling you about. The ability to go backwards outside of the current month is effectively gone from your app. For now.

If you do need to go back to a prior week (as long as it’s in the same month) you can do that from a desktop or the app. Again, for now. I’m not saying they will change back or go to something different but this is an even more controversial change than the Personal Points Program if you ask me. Follow the instructions above for either method and then find the hyperlink that says “learn more about” and the monthly topic

This Week’s Homework: #InvoluntaryScavengerHunt

Your homework for this week is #InvoluntaryScavengerHunt. Absolutely cannot wait to see what Casey comes up with for a graphic on this one LOL. This week I want you to not get discouraged, don’t give up, don’t have a meltdown on me, just try one of the methods above and find the weekly topic. Once you find it just type FOUND IT! And #InvoluntaryScavengerHunt …. and then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #InvoluntaryScavengerHunt and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: My 2023 Word is FOCUS!

I see all the same New Year’s catch phrases that you do:  New Year, New You. Life Has No Remote So Get Up And Change It. It’s a New Year and a New Start.

Just like resolutions, I’m tossing out all the normal cliche sayings and going with “My 2023 Word is ______”. And it can literally be anything, because you decide!

So my personal 2023 Word is FOCUS. Most of you are thinking, “Oh great, what is Kelly going to be focusing on doing?” Sure there will be some of that but let’s spend the next 30 minutes on what I’m focusing on NOT doing instead.

I have spent years telling you that the best way to set and keep a goal is to use the WW SMART method which includes being “A” active meaning you should do something instead of not doing something. But this is a big change for me so I’ve decided to FOCUS on a list of things I’m not going to do.

  1. FOCUS on not letting other people, things, thoughts consume me – Wow this year is a blur. I literally feel like a pinball machine or maybe a revolving door. I don’t think I’ve had more than a handful of days where there wasn’t someone, something, or some thought chasing me and demanding my attention. Even during the night. It’s exhausting. No more.
  2. FOCUS on not wasting food – I tried that in 2022, refer back to #1. It will take me until late March / early April to have my space ready but I will NOT waste food this year. I will NOT make things ahead of time only to throw them away when someone or something consumed my time (see #1 again!) and I never circled back around.
  3. FOCUS on not saying yes – wait, what?  But you always say yes Kelly. Here-in lies part of my problem. I will not be saying yes to everyone and everything this year.
  4. FOCUS on not being sick – shouldn’t I say focus on being well? Nope. I let darn #1 again keep me sick most of 2022 and this year I’m focusing on not being sick. If I had to guess I spent 300 of 365 days coughing. I partially or completely lost my voice at least 7 times. Most nights I don’t sleep thinking about what I didn’t get done that day and what has to be done the next day. I’m not doing that this year.
  5. FOCUS on not working 7 days a week – right now this is what my week looks like:
    • Monday (my “day off”) – get up at 4:45am and work until time to go walk with Karen. Then have a Zoom meeting on the way home. Then answer / return phone calls and emails until time to go pick up Alyssa.
    • Tues thru Friday – get up at 4:45am so I can get to work before “the somebody” starts at 6:45am. Skip lunch. Work until after 5pm. Take home a stack of what didn’t get done.
    • Saturday – you guessed it, get up at 4:45am. Try to squeeze in some IYHAE stuff before I have to be at work. Rush over to Alyssa and Beau’s to have a sleepover.
    • Sunday – sleep in until 6am! Breakfast with the girls, then off to church, then back to work at 1pm until time for the chat.
    • Every one of those days is interrupted by employees who can’t come in or show up for some reason, covering the retail showroom, pushing the same pieces of paper around multiple times, I could go on but this isn’t a pity party, it’s a choice to make some changes!
  6. FOCUS on not doing things that don’t bring me joy – I have created a list of things that bring me joy and anything not on that list is out this year. O. U. T. Out. The first thing off my list is the retail portion of our showroom. For at least 4 years you have heard me brag about our little showroom and some of you have even visited. It was fun. Past tense. I made the difficult but important decision to close out that portion of my life because it consumes about 12-15 hours of my week. I won’t bore you with a sales pitch, but please know we are in the first week of a complete and total CLOSEOUT and many of your favorite items are now 50% off. Dak’s Spices, Food Huggers, we already sold out of Super Cubes, stickers, coffee things, tea things, you name it…it’s half off. You will never find these things for this price and once they are gone they are gone. I need your help freeing up my time, my thoughts, and my emotions since this no longer brings me joy.  And I want you to get the deals before we release them to the public. Go to www.kckitchencenter.com/shop or www.ifyouhaveanegg.com/shop and get an additional 25% off the already reduced prices of 25% off using code CLOSEOUT at checkout
