News and Reviews

  • Today is the first day of the “Bulk It Up” Challenge hosted by Julie over on the If You Have an Egg Facebook Group. Hop in any time, it’s not a competition with anyone but yourself!
  • Ok…let’s talk about the app. There have been some ups and downs the last few weeks and for 2 days last week I thought the Weekly topic under the Discover Content tab was lost forever. Not sure what happened but it is BACK.
I had to update the app on my iPad to make it show and this is the message: We’ve debugged and improved our app experience, worked on issues that caused crashes, and fine-tuned a handful of things behind the scenes, all to empower your WW journey and help you build habits for a happy, healthy life.”

More about this and what long time Egglette Julie discovered today in the second half!

Last week was Chat #354 “How To Hack Your Home to Stay On Track!”

Raise your hand if you’ve ever opened a container in the back of the crisper drawer and thought “what the heck even was that?”

Yeah, we’ve all been there and done that. Even with the best of intentions we ALL (pros and newbies alike) need some help getting our homes, offices and even our cars hacked to help us stay on track!

Pro Tips for Finding Your Best Space Hacks:

At your fingertips

Some things like your gym clothes, meal prep tools, your favorite appliance or food scale, and your best tracking method should be within reach. Keeping your best tools in reach (or at least in sight) is the best way to make sure they get used.

The principle of least effort.

According to Harvard Linguistics Professor George Kingsley Zipf, PhD two factors guide human behavior
a) A desire to maximize benefit

b) A desire to minimize effort

It’s simple – things you want or feel you need to do for your weight loss success, make an easy path. Things you need to limit or even avoid? Make it hard!  Here are a few examples:

  • If you want a butternut squash as part of your dinner after a long day are you more likely to hack into this? Or use something like this?  Easy peasy!
  • If you want to get up on time to go out for your morning walk do you sleep with your phone in your bed? Or put the alarm clock (and your dang phone) across the room? No brainer!
  • If you want your kids and yourself to eat more fruit instead of candy, which one do you leave sitting out? Let’s ask Casey…she has started putting out apples where the girls can see them and even invested in a good quality apple corer / slicer. The candy from Alyssa’s birthday party is abundant but put away in an opaque bag. I’ll let you guess which one is the easiest path now!

Now You See Me

All these years of chats and listening to my fearless leader Gwen later and this is still a Top 5 Topic Favorite. I have labeled these identical opaque containers with colored post its rather than numbers or letters so I don’t accidentally lead you in a decision.

One of these contains a zero point food. One is 8 points worth of something that isn’t bad but might be more points than you want to “accidentally” consume. The third is 20 points of something that may be a problem and should probably be out of sight.

How could these be stored to encourage you to enjoy the 0 point food, use the 8 points in a civilized manner, and maybe avoid the 20 points until the occasion calls for sharing?

Your homework was #NowYouSeeMe. Still pretty darn easy homework again last week, did you do it? Find ONE thing in your pantry, fridge, grocery pick up list that needs to be front and center in a clear container OR something you need to put in a spot where you will be less likely to grab it and show us how you took care of it!

  • Marlene put a bowl of apples on her dining room table and truvia brown sugar in a clear jar on the counter (with apple corer nearby!) to remind her of a quick, healthy snack!
  • Sarah was paying attention during the chat and made a goal to get her grapes in a clear container front and center so she would find them!
  • Casey put the “easy snacks” for the girls a little higher than their eyeballs and the apples down where they can see them. Guess what they’ve been choosing?

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: “How To Stay Inspired, No Matter What the Scale Says!”

Nine. Zero. All of them.

Nine = the number of times I found previous chats that talked about our obsession with the scale (without even trying really hard). Click here to visit those past chats https://www.ifyouhaveanegg.com/page/1/?s=scale

Zero = the number of times the scale gets to decide how you did today or what your value as a human is

All of them = the number of times you should celebrate those little things that the scale doesn’t tell you!

Pro Tips for Staying Inspired:

Revisit Your Why

We all joined that first time (or 5th time or in my case 6th time) for a reason. If you haven’t thought about that reason for a while or if it’s changed over time, revisit it. Heck even write it down and post it where you can see it!

Name 3 Things

Even if the scale hasn’t budged this month, I bet you can name three things that have changed since you’ve started on this journey. Maybe you can tie your own shoes. Could be that you aren’t embarrassed when someone opens your fridge or looks in your trash can anymore. Or in my case don’t have to keep Pepto in stock and on hand, or even think about it.

Now on to a VICTORY lap!

By now you are all thinking “oh yea, NSV’s I remember those” but we haven’t talked much about them lately have we?  Now’s the time!  NSV’s or Non Scale Victories are all those little (and some big!) things that tell you how you’re really doing, how your week went, and sometimes just sometimes what a really great person you are 🙂

This Week’s Homework: #VictoryLap

Your homework for this week is #VictoryLap. Where are my cheerleaders? I want to hear some hooping and hollering this week as we celebrate ALL of your victories both small and large!   Now DO YOUR HOMEWORK because I promise there is someone who needs the idea you have already rattling around in your head. Whatever it is let us know, I promise your decision to participate this week will help you AND someone else!  Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #VictoryLap and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Congratulations, Your App is Bug Free

“We’ve debugged and improved our app experience, worked on issues that caused crashes, and fine tuned a handful of things behind the scenes.”

This was the notification I got when I forced my iPad to update the WW app after last week’s chaotic mess. It does seem to be working a lot better, but I know we’ve all been frustrated by all of the things that we still can’t locate or find.

I have attached the YouTube version of the eggstra credit as well as the video with the visuals added to help you.

Version with Visuals Added:

I hope this helped anyone that has been struggling to keep up with all of these app changes! What were you happy to see make a return to the app? Let us know in the comments below!
