News and Reviews

Thank you Melisa from our in person Tuesday meeting for making a special trip to Sam’s to grab me some of these. Having these 30 gram of protein, no weird chemicals, Fairlife Protein Shakes on hand has already saved me TWICE this week…thank you Melisa!

Y’all I need your prayers, happy thoughts, whatever you can send my way. I hired a new girl for the showroom that was coming back to the workplace after 17 years as a stay at home mom to 6 boys (you heard me). She was only going to be here 4 days a week, 6 ½ hours a day but I had visions of making more IP and easy meal videos, eating lunch, taking bathroom breaks without worrying that someone was standing in the showroom, not answering 20-30 spam calls a day, heck being off on my day off. Just got a message she lept back in too soon and will not be able to work for me. My dreams of lunches I was going to prepare and enjoy here just wafted out the window. If you know anyone in the Knoxville/Halls/Powell area who’s looking to work part time please DM me! I need help!

Review Last Week: Last week was Chat #329 “5 Queues to Eat More Mindfully!”

Have you ever gotten to the bottom of the soggy fries in the bottom of a greasy drive thru bag and thought “why did I even eat that”?

Maybe it was because you paid for it. Maybe your favorite aunt made it just for you. Perhaps you were just busy and didn’t even notice it wasn’t that great until it was gone.

Five Q’s (Queues) that may get in the way of eating mindfully are:

  1. Can you See the food
  2. Smelling the food
  3. The Situation
  4. How does the food Sound
  5. Is this food Special

Three Fast Facts from WW:

Give it to Mikey, He’ll eat anything

At times we are all Mikey aren’t we?  Sometimes we eat things other people would send back or push away. “Civilians” have a tendency to stop eating when something is the wrong temperature, wasn’t prepared well, isn’t what they asked for, or just doesn’t taste good. Research shows that sometimes we eat food we just really don’t like!

Simon Smells

I know, I know it’s Simon Says. But have you ever just smelled something and suddenly you know you better leave the area or there will be trouble? For that very reason I marketed peppers and onions followed by baked cookies at our fall festival for Casey’s elementary school. Even people who attended thinking they weren’t going to eat ended up buying one or the other (or both). It is a fact that just seeing or smelling a food can make you more likely to eat it.

To Grandma’s House we go

Did just saying we were headed to grandma’s house stir up any special feelings about food? WW nailed this fact, certain situations and the way you remember, think about, dream about a food can prompt you to eat.

Your homework was #MindYourQs. Identify one of the five Q’s (which actually all begin with an S but…) made you want something to eat this week and shout it out loud. How did you handle that (or will you handle it next time) and then right it down, do your homework and dropping that anchor will be a snap next time!  Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

  • Summer was starving and grabbed a plastic wrapped honey bun because it was going to be a while before she could get some real food to eat. She took a couple of bites and then threw it in the trash because it was stale. After that she grabbed a bottle of water and decided to tough it out until she could get food rather than waste eating that crummy pastry!
  • Caroline loves Chinese and just smelling it was making her think she was hungry. She smelled some the other night and made herself stop and realize it was 9pm, who’s hungry at that time of night LOL?
  • Lynn can just hear the word chocolate and it sends her into a chocoholic episode…any suggestions for how to mind those Q’s?

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: “Track It Like You Mean It!”

This week’s WW topic was in my opinion…lackluster. I mean I get it. We need to view activity in a different way to keep us motivated and moving. But that topic is good for an every other year repeat list, am I right?

Instead I decided we are going to re-revisit this stuck, stuttering and sputtering topic.

Show of hands:

  1. Who’s weight loss attempts feel “stuck”?
  2. Who could describe it better as “stuttering”?
  3. Now who’s with me in the “sputtering” category?

My desire is there, my ability is strong, my ability to make any significant weight loss the last few months just feels like…well an engine that needs a little gas and is sput sput sputtering.

I made a list of things I’ve done in the past to get some gas in my engine. Things like:

  • Salt and MSG free spices
  • Walking 6 days a week
  • Adding more veggies
  • Tracking
  • Tracking honestly
  • Tracking like I mean it…

Three Fast Facts from WW:

If it’s not broken don’t fix it

Some of the things I’m getting ready to say won’t apply to you. If you are chug chug chugging along then ignore me the next 5 minutes and go watch some cute babies holding chickens reels.

This is not a perfection sport

What I’m getting ready to say in the next section will seem like I’m asking you (and me) to be perfect. I’m not. Life is not a perfect sport and neither is weight loss. Listen to what I’m saying, do what you can, but be ready to cut yourself some slack if you need it ok?

Track like you mean it

I decided this week…7 days…21 plus meals…I am tracking it like I mean it. I know I will show a loss at the scale. But if I don’t I will try this again next week. And the next. And because this isn’t a perfect sport, if I slip up I will get up. But I will track like I mean it.

  1. Only honest tracking, no eyeballing or assuming I know what I know that I know
  2. Having a discussion with my peer group (which is my husband, family and one co-worker for now) about what I’m doing and what help I need
  3. Pre-planning meals I won’t be making and pre-tracking them
  4. Not worrying about getting blue dots
  5. Counting everything and realizing everything counts. This last statement is where I will lose some of you. Let me know show you just 4 ways I fool myself so you won’t be fooled

This Week’s Homework: #TrackItLikeYouMeanIt

Your homework for this week is #TrackItLikeYouMeanIt. Even if it’s just one meal this week I want you to track it like you mean it. That may mean being honest about the points or it may be not worrying about a blue dot. Whatever it is let us know, I promise your decision to participate this week will help you AND someone else!  Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #TrackItLikeYouMeanIt and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Instant Pot Vs. Air Fryer – Apple Crisp

The appliance battle is back at it again! We are putting the Air Fryer and Instant Pot head to head again for Apple Crisps! Our special guest Alyssa was very excited about this one, but which appliance will win her approval?

We used Granny Smith apples, chopping them up into small pieces. Alyssa loved this part the most! I recommend using a crisp apple like Granny Smiths, Honeycrisp, etc. Softer apples might not be the best for this recipe. We added a little bit of Truvia Baking Blend with Monk Fruit, cinnamon, and spray with a little coconut spray.

Using the Air Fryer, they will be put in at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

Using the Instant Pot, half a cup of water down in the inner pot before inserting the apples. A separate pan with the apples in it will be put in on High Pressure for 7 minutes. We went ahead and put the topping on the one for the Instant Pot, and that is made with Bear Naked Protein Granola, more Stevia, and a little bit of light butter.

(the Instant Pot recipe is modified from https://confessionsofafitfoodie.com/21-day-fix-instant-pot-apple-crisp-gluten-dairy-free/)

We’ve done several Air Fryer recipes for apples, so please go and check those out as well after this one!

The final results were actually a little shocking this week! The air fryer apples were absolutely delicious, and Alyssa was a big fan. The instant pot… made the apples more like an applesauce? I wasn’t expecting that, but believe it or not… Alyssa loved those apples too! So I would say that the Air Fryer apples were the winners, but the real winner is finding two things that this picky eater enjoyed!

Keep watching for more testing, playing, and recipes! I’m so excited and you should be too.
