Last week was a real snooze fest! Seriously, in Chat #173: Better Sleep Starts Here we chatted about the importance of catching some zzzzz for your health, your emotional well-being, and its vital role in weight management.

Your homework was to #sleepwell and so many of you took this topic seriously!

Bravo ladies, you nailed it!

This Week’s Topic: Raise a Glass!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been dehydrated. The effects can range from dry mouth to headaches to mood change and lack of concentration. But staying hydrated does more than keep you from hitting the lip balm.

Many medications require a full glass of water to help them metabolize and work the way they are supposed to. Getting in plenty of fluids keeps you fuller, helps you digest your food, lets you exercise longer and harder (just don’t overheat!), and let’s all be honest – all that extra running to the bathroom must get in some extra steps, right?

So how do you keep the liquids coming without blowing your points budget?

Show me your favorite way to enjoy the beverage of your choice and how you keep the points low!

Extra Credit: Quarantine 15 Restart

Okay, here it is… the news you’ve been waiting for all week! For those who may have missed it, revisit last week’s Chat #173 where the Extra Credit was to do a Quarantine 15 restart. I’ve seen it all over social media and thought the idea of a “Quarantine 15” was funny at first… until it happened to me.

Why did I do it?
In the beginning of our quarantine, I was incredibly pleased that I lost 2 pounds! But after routines changed and life got more hectic I gained back those two pounds and they brought three friends with them.

What did I do?

  • Enlisted the help of everyone around me. I let everyone know I would be eating only the things I planned and hoped that they wouldn’t be too upset when I either didn’t eat with them or didn’t accept food they offered to me (no matter how delicious!)
  • Decided how to tackle it. I chose to go hard and heavy for 7 days. I tracked every single thing that went in my mouth, I only had 3 snacks in the whole week (one of which was my Air Fryer Baked Apples), I drank TONS of water, I committed to limiting the amount of meat I ate, I limited processed foods, I didn’t eat out at all.
  • Got at least 6 hours of sleep every night
  • Got exercise of some sort in every single day
  • Consumed at least 3 cups of vegetables and 1 cup of fruit every day
  • No added sodium…the only spices I used were Dak’s Spices no salt, no MSG

What foods kept me full?
Protein-rich foods like yogurt, Premier Protein shakes, eggs, and hummus were what kept me the most full. Plus, I was drinking plenty of water, which helped tremendously!

Did I have any cravings?
I did crave watermelon (which of course I indulged) and used Pedal Java Devil’s Food iced coffee to curb my sweet tooth cravings. If I did feel “snacky” during the day, I kept prepared bananas and clementines ready to eat and made sure to choose those for a snack.

How did it make me feel?
I don’t feel bloated, my feet don’t hurt like they do when I’m carrying around extra weight, and overall I’m feeling much more energetic!

So, how did I do?
I stuck with it well and thankfully everyone around me cooperated and supported me. Alyssa loved all the extra fruit! She even developed a new love for watermelon! Some days did pose a challenge, but I was able to navigate those days and make the best of them. And during my 7 day Quarantine 15 Restart challenge I lost 5.5 lbs!

If you’re wondering if you can do the same, I promise you that you can! Don’t expect to lose that much weight every single week. This was an extreme week with an extreme meal plan, and I wouldn’t expect anyone to make it a daily lifestyle (I don’t plan to). But as a 7-day challenge to restart your healthy eating habits, this worked wonderfully for me!
