WW (Weight Watchers) Digital Wellness Workshop #94: Shift Your Mindset

Ever have a friend or family member who believed something ridiculous so strongly the only way to change their mind was a reality check? (Followed by a swift smack on the back of the head 😉). They need this chat and so do you! (Bonus! We will be playing with my new @simplelivingproducts Digital Air Fryer during the second half of our chat 👍🏼)

I

mindset

/ˈmīn(d)set/

noun

noun: mindset; plural noun: mindsets; noun: mind-set; plural noun: mind-sets

  1. the established set of attitudes held by someone..

    • Fixed mindset = an attitude that something won’t change…it’s always going to be the same…it will never be different.  Sometimes we get our minds fixed on something and it’s hard to get off of it:
      • I can’t have potato chips, it’s impossible to stop myself once I get started
      • At I’m too old, I waited too long to start working out my body won’t change
      • This new medicine stinks, my doctor will never change me back and I’m going to carry around this extra 10 pounds forever!
    • Reality check = Always.  Never.  Impossible.  Such harsh words to use on yourself, would you use them on a friend?  What if your friend told you the same things I said above and honestly believed it?  You wouldn’t just say “well, you better pack it up and give in…you’re sunk”.  Would you?  Why do we say it (and believe it) ourselves?
    • Growth mindset = According to WW a growth mindset is a super power…turning it on can change your outlook, your choices, your decisions…Never and Impossible become Let’s Do This!
      • Instead of “I can’t” how about:  Chips are a red light food for me but I love them.  I could enjoy them occasionally if I make sure there are witnesses and choose a pre-portioned package so I can enjoy them, track and move on!
      • Forget “I’m too old”:  I’ve ridden this planet 51 one times around the sun and I’m healthier and more fit now than when I was 31.  I know that moving more keeps my body AND mind healthy so I’m going to keep doing it!
      • Just say no to  “my doctor will never change”:  Hey Dr H, here is a list of reasons I don’t like the news meds including the weight gain.  Is this really the only option or can we do another sleep test and consider going back to what worked for me?  Guess what?  I have a sleep study scheduled for a week from Monday!
    • One of the ladies in our physical group works with kids.  She reminds them daily that their feelings are valid, no one can tell them not to have them BUT “just because you feel that way doesn’t mean you are that way”.  Wow.  Let’s call this a FRIEND CHECK.  The next time you “feel that way” ask yourself what a friend would say.
      • Your homework for this week is to write down one Never, Always or Impossible and do a Friend Check.  Then write down the Growth Mindset statement that you would have said to a friend in the same situation!  Post your Friend Check and tag me @ifyouhaveanegg so I can send your Bravo sticker!

Air Fryer Q&A:

Q: What brand of Air Fryer do you have?

A: I have a Power XL which will be moving to the camper and now a Simple Living Products Digital 5.8 qt that lives on my counter

Q: Where can I purchase the air fryer you have?

A: They are available at Walmart as well but if you purchase through Amazon we have an affiliate link for 10% off at checkout!  http://a.co/d/4jZeXJO use code EGGLADY10 for 10% off when you check out 🙂

Q: What size should I get?

A: Listen to me….get the largest one you can afford and will fit in your space.  I use ours almost every day and most of the time fill it up at least once.  There are only two of us, you’re gonna use it a lot!

Q: What kinds of cookware are safe in the air fryer?

A: I use mainly the accessories that came with my Simple Living Digital 5.8 qt Air Fryer, but also any crock, pan, bowl, etc that is oven safe.  You can even use high quality silicone baking dishes!

Q: Does the Air Fryer smoke when you use it?

A: As long as you don’t add oil or forget to clean it out as oil/fat drips into the bottom your air fryer should not smoke. A little steam may occur but you should not see or smell any smoke.  Also make sure you check cooking times and temps prior to use to make sure you are not overcooking and burning food

Q: Do I need to season my new air fryer?

A: I didn’t think it was important the first time but boy I’m glad I heeded the instructions that came with my new Simple Living Air Fryer!  It was so easy, took less than 10 minutes and now the food just glides right out!

Q: Do you add oil to the air fryer?

A: I use a little olive oil non stick spray on foods that contain little to no fat.  On rare occasion I might shake up some items in a zipper lock plastic bag with a teaspoon or so of olive oil.  But for the most part there is NO ADDED OIL!

Q: What should I make first?

A: Baked potatoes!  You can’t mess them up, they are cheap, and you are going to love them!  So much so this may become one of your favorite Air Fryer dishes 🙂

  1. Wash 4 to 6 medium potatoes (I use Yukon Gold or sweet)
  2. Lightly spray the outsides with non stick spray
  3. Salt if desired (I do not add salt)
  4. Prick the top of each potato with a fork and place in basket without touching
  5. Air Fry on 390 degrees F for 25-35 minutes depending on size
  6. Remove carefully when done and enjoy with your favorite garnish…a family favorite!

Q: What are you favorite Air Fryer recipes?

A: We use our Simple Living Products 5.8 qt Digital Air Fryer almost every day but here are a few of my favorite recipes!  Please remember to Like, Share and Comment if you make one!!
