News and Reviews April 2023

  • The app is slowly starting to update and now… Zero Point foods are green! The update is not available for everyone, but it seems to be sprinkling down to a few of you. Julie from the IYHAE group was the first person I saw that posted about it. This is a nice way to make it easy to know that these are Zero Points! Now, PAY ATTENTION! This does not mean that we are back on blue, green, and purple. Zero Point foods are the only ones that are turning green.

Last week in Chat #314: How to Turn Small Wins Into Big Victories! we talked all about giving ourselves credit for all our victories, not just the big ones

Tracking your food, checking points, or just simply making dinner at home doesn’t always feel like a big deal. But it is all of those small wins that lead to a bigger victory of losing weight and feeling healthier! There are a few other things that you may not realize are contributing to your big victory that we will dive into in this chat!

Reflecting on How We Overcome Barriers is Critical for Weight Loss Success
We aren’t turning around and looking back, just looking in the rearview mirror to see how we have overcome obstacles in our past. We don’t want to dwell on them, but acknowledging that we conquered them is critical for our success.

Studies Show When We Recognize The Effort We put into Our Accomplishment, We Tend to Feel Better About Our Progress
Think about that for a minute. Who thinks it’s a big deal to go to the grocery store? If you went to the store, farmers market, or did a grocery pickup, you put in the effort to make your own food and not go get fast food. You put in the effort to gather ingredients to make your own meals and have control over your points. That effort should make you feel proud of your progress!

This Gives Us a Sense of Motivation to Keep Moving Towards our Goals
Now these are not the same as NSVs. Non-Scale Victories are like getting to move down a loop on your belt or bend over to shave your legs with ease. These little things boost your motivation and give you a boost to keep going towards bigger goals.
Your homework was #VictoryLapper. Find that little thing that seems simple but is overwhelming, find a way to get it done, and then memorialize it with us …. and then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Let’s see how you did!

  • Sylvia has found that simply prepping her food is such a big win! Meal prepping has made it easy for her and her family to stay on track.
  • A few people at my in person workshop are doing the simple thing of checking on their people! Jane and her table buddy keep in touch and make a huge victory out of it by driving an hour and a half to come to our meeting.

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: Temptation Bundling

Take things you love and things you don’t necessarily like to do and bundle them together!

Sometimes it’s easy to only focus on the things that are fun and we love doing. But the tasks that we don’t like are oftentimes important too! These are a few ways to do both by bundling them together!

If You Love to Chat with People, but You Don’t Love Zoom…

My leader Gwen has a Zoom meeting every week, and I love being able to hop in and see everyone’s faces. It’s like having a fireside chat with all of these people that I wouldn’t normally get to see in person. I don’t love Zoom, but it has become a way for more people to attend Gwen’s meetings. So bundling my love for seeing everyone and chatting with getting on a Zoom call is a great way to Temptation Bundle!

Name 3 Things That You Genuinely Enjoy, Then Name 3 Things You Need to Reach Your Goals

This is an easy way to find connections between things that you wouldn’t naturally connect together. This is an easy way to tempt a task and be able to keep it interesting by bundling!

This Week’s Homework: #TaskTempter

Your homework for this week is #TaskTempter. Find one thing that you love to do and bundle it together with something that you don’t necessarily like to do…. and then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #TaskTempter and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Summer Salad Series – Hot Bacon Broccoli Slaw

Something I love to do is make fun recipes with you! Something I don’t necessarily like to do is make sure I have food for lunch at work tomorrow. I’m going to use Temptation Bundling to show you all this recipe, and it will make my lunch for tomorrow!

If you know me, I will not prepare meals and eat the same thing every day. But this Summer Salad Series will make it easy for me to prepare meals and not be bored with my lunches since I can start with the same base and dress up the salads differently for each day! The first one is the Hot Bacon Broccoli Slaw. That recipe is already on this blog, go check it out here!

When I tell you that this slaw is a crowd pleaser I mean it! We make this for family functions, baby showers, and everything in between. To make it, you’ll need my candied bacon (crumbled), broccoli slaw, cheddar cheese, nonfat plain Greek yogurt, light mayo, red wine vinegar, Truvia baking blend, and dried cranberries (reduced sugar, of course). Just combine these ingredients in a large bowl and you’re ready to serve!
