News and Reviews

  1. The WW app is still undergoing some updates (or is it??) but only about 10-15% of us have seen any of these changes. I am not one of those, are you? I have been assured though that these are merely app updates and NOT a sign that a new program is coming. It’s that time of year so our normally twitchy members are extra panicky right now LOL
  2. Last week we discussed that the online store is going away (or as Gwen put it “sunsetting”).  Last week all of the cookbooks were marked from $15-20 down to just THREE DOLLARS. This week they have added: 15% off for signing up for text notifications, and if you use the code FALL FREEBIE at checkout you can unlock the WW by Dash Mini Waffle Maker OR spend $75 or more and unlock the Half Gallon Water Bottle or the WW Bluetooth Smart Scale.  What is NOT clear is if you get it FREE and/or if you get both freebies if you go over the $75.  Anyone know?

Review Last Week: Last week was Chat #335 “Saying YES to Saying No!”

Who has seen the movie Yes Man starring Jim Carey?

In this early 2000’s rom com, Jim Carey’s character Carl goes thru a bad breakup, a boring job and then a host of other reasons to be depressed and withdraw from social life. One the advice of a friend he goes to a self-help seminar to learn how to unleash the power of “yes”. While in this movie saying YES leads him to all sorts of amazing and transforming experiences, WW wants us to learn how unleashing the power of NO may just do the same thing for your weight loss and wellness journey!

Three Fast Facts from WW:

Change of Plans

When you make a new goal (weight loss, the way or things you will eat, maybe just organizing your kitchen like Melisa) you may need to adjust your priorities. Simply said, things that used to be important might not be now.

No No FOMO

When we say no we are often seized with the fear of “oh no, what am I missing out on??”

Unleash The Power of No!

Saying no doesn’t have to mean you are missing out on something, used properly it can be a very powerful tool. Today I was asked if I take the dynamic duo to church with me. Sure,I’ll still get to attend my own small group so yes. Then if I would feed them and stay at home with them until dad got home. Ok, yes I can do that. I didn’t have anything to do until 2pm. But then came the request “do you care if I stop at so and so and have lunch before I come home?”. I knew this was the topic tonight. I knew what I should say. But the sudden guilt of saying to no to my not born to me child and saying no to another hour and a half to the cutest kids on the planet had me sweating. I looked at hubby and he said “no, you’ve had them all day and you had plans for 2. I said no to one more thing on my plate and said YES to getting my recipe ready for tomorrow. YES to taking my time at the store. YES to getting my work finished today instead of coming in at 6am tomorrow. It was hard but I unleashed the power of NO, and no one got upset but me LOL

Your homework was #UnleashTheNo! Tell us one example this week of when you really wanted to (or thought you needed to) say YES but instead you unleash your power of NO and what it allowed you to actually say YES to instead.

  • Barbara had responded yes to a wine tasting event on Saturday but decided to change it to a no since she had a prior commitment earlier in the day. Way to say YES to yourself!
  • Deanna enjoyed some wine (I’m sensing a wine theme for this week’s homework LOL) during the race and her hubby suggested opening another bottle.  She said no to something she can enjoy anytime and YES to having weeklies left for something special!
  • And y’all are going to think I’m crazy but I made up the rules and I say this counts hahaha. I said NO to replying to a conversation because I do not agree with the other person’s opinion on the topic so I could say YES to not starting a debate neither of us will win!

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic:  “Eating Habits Be(A)ware!”

I’ve got another movie reference tonight…who has seen Disney’s A Bug’s Life?

In one of my favorite scenes the ants are doing what ants do which is harvest. Their little perfect lines are irritating when they are in your home or on your picnic table, but you have to admit the skill with which they maintain their ranks is pretty impressive. In this scene a leaf falls and lands where else? Smack in the middle of the line. Suddenly the next ant is LOST…where is the line??

  • Ant #1: [gasps] No, no, no, Oh, no. Oh, no.
  • [a leaf falls in front of one of the worker ants in the food line]
  • Ant #1: I’m lost! Where’s the line? It just went away. What do I do?
  • Ant #2: Help!
  • Ant: We’ll be stuck here forever!
  • Mr. Soil: Do not panic, do not panic. We are trained professionals. Now, stay calm. We are going around the leaf.
  • Ant #1: Around the leaf? I-I-I don’t think we can do that.
  • Mr. Soil: Oh, nonsense. This is nothing compared to the twig of ’93

Three Fast Facts from WW:

You are what (and how) you eat

Did you realize you have an eating pattern? How you eat often determines what you eat:

  1. Are you a machine gun or a snail?
  2. Do you eat on a schedule or when the mood hits?
  3. Is mealtime a sit down at a table experience or while hovering near a flat surface or driving from one place to the next?

Knowledge is Power

Recognizing your eating patterns and why you have them will help you figure out what’s working and also identify some things you want to change

We are going around the leaf

Life is busy and we tend to march in the same line day after day.

Maybe your “line” is eating scheduled meals every day and when your “leaf” falls your next planned meal does too. Or maybe you are like me and your “leaf” is an unexpected customer walking in the door right as you get your lunch out

Do not panic, do not panic. We are trained professionals. We are going AROUND the leaf

The WW topic can be found under the three horizontal lines on your app and then “Discover Content”. Check out the “Try This!” activity to dive a little deeper into what’s really going on when you eat!

This Week’s Homework: #GoAroundTheLeaf

Extra Credit: Protein Bowl Taste Test!

In the Eggstra Credit, I tried three protein bowls recommended by you all!

As I have mentioned in previous chats, I don’t have a lot of time for food in the showroom. So when I saw these suggestions, I wanted to test to see if these would be good options for a busy day in the office!

The first bowl is a Healthy Choice Greek Style Chicken Power Bowl that is only 2 pts. This bowl is in the frozen section, and does take quite a while to cook. Its 4-5 minutes in the microwave. Not ideal for a quick and easy meal on a busy day.

The second bowl is Tasty Bite Mediterranean Medley All Natural Protein Bowl that is 5pts. This one is shelf stable, and can be found where the boxed meals are in the grocery store. They also cook within 60 seconds! Those two things really give this one an edge on being good to keep in the showroom. And bonus, it comes with a spork!!

The last bowl is Loma Linda Plant Based Goodness Greek Bowl that is… These are also shelf stable and cook within 60 seconds, but it has SO MUCH sodium in it! This is definitely one that will be chased with a glass of water.

The Healthy Choice bowl does have chicken in it, and it was pretty good!

The Tasty Bite bowl is mostly quinoa and beans, and it was quite yummy!

The Loma Linda bowl… um… it wasn’t great. It smelled like dirt, and unfortunately it tasted like dirt too. I would not recommend this one!

What protein bowls are your favorites? Let me know!
