Today is Father’s Day and it’s my first one without my dad. After 80 years of hard work, crazy trips, five marriages, and an eternity of love for his grandchildren and one great he passed away this Easter Sunday.

My blog is partially in dedication to him and his lack of any sort of nutritional decision when it came to food. That sounds harsh, but it’s the truth and it lead me to the wellness pitstop on my weight loss journey. Meat was fried, vegetables are better with fat back, sugar or butter, everything he made was delicious but my goodness was it bad for you. His yummy creations went past my lips and straight to my hips! Not to mention what fatty, sugar laden foods do to your health…yikes!

How To: Air Fryer Wings

So what to do? Almost a quarter of a century ago I decided to lose weight. I was carrying around almost 50 extra pounds that I was blaming on baby weight (p.s. I only gained 30 pounds while I was pregnant so that math wasn’t working for anyone but me lol). But six years ago he started having major health issues, most of which were diet (or lack of) related. And then my mom had a major health scare and completely changed her lifestyle.

I made the decision to stop that cycle and change my lifestyle, but still be able to live…know what I mean? And so I am constantly on the lookout for better, faster, easier ways to make the same yummy foods (and some new ones too!) without all the added fat. Sans the sugar. Minus the mediocrity. Enter the Simple Living Products Air Fryer, tada!

One of his favorite full fat, dressing slathered, deliciousnesses to serve at boat parties, picnics and around the pool was chicken wings. By the time you drop them in a vat of boiling oil and then dip them in sauce *whew* you’ve racked up a lot of calories, a lot of WW points and sometimes an upset tummy.

Air Fryer Wings!

Cooking wings…real wings…in the air fryer reduces fat, calories, WW points but not the flavor. These are SKIN ON wings so the points will be higher than skinless chicken. It’s ok. You’re not trying to become a diet hermit who just eats sprouts while doing goat yoga. You can eat real food. You can enjoy the company of others who just want to spend time with you and not hear about why you can only eat carrots and cottage cheese on your latest diet. EAT REAL FOOD… just be healthy doing it.
