Baked tofu is an easy way to either start experimenting with this often misunderstood food or as a prep ahead for seasoned tofu pros. Tofu absorbs the flavor of whatever it is mixed with so use baked tofu to toss with other seasonings, salad dressings, or sauces for a special treat. My mom, Vegan Nana, used to prepare multiple blocks of Baked Tofu and then freeze individual servings for quick reheating!

Yield 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 12oz Extra Firm Tofu pressed and cut into cubes
  • 1 Tsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Bragg Premium Nutritional Yeast Seasoning
  • ½ Tbsp Argo Corn Starch

Instructions

  1. Use only extra firm tofu!
  2. Using a clean, lint free cloth or cheesecloth, “press” the tofu block by covering with the cloth and setting a heavy plate on top for 10-15 minutes. Alternatively, you can gently press out as much moisture as you can with the palm of your hands.
  3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  4. Slice tofu lengthwise and then in quarters until it's cubed. Pro Tip! A serrated bread knife works great for slicing extra firm tofu!
  5. Using an EVOO or other oil spritzer, lightly spritz tofu. Then toss in liquid aminos or tamari.
  6. Sprinkle with nutritional yeast and cornstarch and lightly “toss”
  7. Gently spread out evenly on a parchment paper covered baking sheet
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes turning once using tongs
  9. Serve immediately or allow to cool completely before refrigerating
