News and Reviews May 2023

  • While Weight Watchers celebrates its 60th anniversary since that first meeting of a few women in the basement of Jean Nitcetch in 1963, another weight loss staple Jenny Craig suddenly closed its doors. Customers are being told that “all auto-delivery subscriptions have been canceled” and that “all coaching sessions, food orders and merchandise sales have ceased online and in corporate centers.” At a time when many of us have lost our “personal” meetings, please reach out to  your Jenny Craig friends and invite them to join us for fun and fellowship. This is not a WW only support group, and you ladies and gents are the providers of alot of support!

Last week in Chat #317: No More Blame Game I told you a little story….(names have been changed to protect the innocent LOL)

One day Kendra opened the fridge at work to take out her favorite Irish Butter only to find the container almost empty. “What on earth? Where did all my butter go?”

Kimmy happened to be close by and these were her responses:

Public response – “well you didn’t put your name on it and you shouldn’t have left it in the public fridge. It really could have been anyone”

Private response – “way to go idiot, no only did you eat 64 points worth of butter you didn’t even fess up to doing it. You should just eat the rest of it…heck you should blow off the rest of this week, skip weigh in and start WW again next Wednesday”

Don’t Be Kimmy

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been Kimmy. Now raise your hand if you WERE Kimmy!  Don’t be Kimmy…here’s why

OK, What Really Happened Was…

If you’ve ever seen one episode of a crime show true or not you’ve heard a suspect who was an otherwise normal, upstanding citizen do a few things:

  1. Lie about what happened
  2. Blame it on someone else
  3. Wallow in guilt and remorse and then blame themselves for everything that happened from that moment on whether it was related or not

So what really happened was this. Kimmy isn’t a bad person or a weight loss failure. It just so happened that the same week the “irish butter of the gods” was available that she hadn’t had time to pack her lunch. And she was super busy. And stressed. And there was also a loaf of sourdough bread (that no one seemed to notice also disappeared) which made for a super easy “comfort” meal. This wasn’t planned, it wasn’t premeditated. It happened.

WWKD?

After listening to tonight’s chat and realizing that could have been handled a little differently, what should Kimmy do in the future? If that happened to you, could you stop and ask WWKD (what would Kimmy do)? Things like:

  1. Ask if she could have some butter and who knows, someone may have realized she didn’t have food and offered to get her some
  2. Admitted that she did eat it, tracked it and moved on
  3. Gone to weigh in and started her re-start that day instead of next week (or month, or never)

Your homework was #WWID? (What Would I Do?) Think about how Kimmy got in this situation and about a time it happened to you, then tell us what you could do next time to avoid the blame game and get right back on track! Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Let’s see how you did!

  • Mary Ann said that when she faces similar situations, she tries to track them, get back to normal life, and get herself back on track quickly.
  • Deanna had run out of her spritz butter for popcorn so she decided to try an alternative which left her popcorn a soggy mess and didn’t agree with her stomach, so she took a step back and decided to handle the situation differently next time.

Bravo, you did it!

This Week’s Topic: No More Forbidden Foods!

I need you to find a piece of scrap paper and write down 3 foods you promised you would never eat again (or thought you would never eat again) once you joined WW.

Hold up your piece of  paper and shout out your 3 foods.

Rip It Up!

Rip up your list of “No Fly” foods…nothing is off limits on WW!

Build a Budget

The perfect way to make all foods inclusive in your WW plan is to budget for them! Here are a couple of ideas:

  1. If you can plan ahead, let some dailies roll over and use them
  2. Plan a smaller serving that will satisfy your taste buds but not blow the budget
  3. Budget a meal or time when you can enjoy this food with witnesses

Find Your Way

Find your way where there is no other way. I’ve seen some things I never thought would be WW friendly find a way to my plate.

  • Pizza cut into two slices and #BulkItUp with a salad to make it seem like more pizza
  • A lightened up version of a point heavy food using chicken breast, sugar free sauces or air frying instead of deep frying
  • Saving things that are only best unchanged (like real butter or fancy cheese) for special occasions like a vacation, once a year family get together or birthdays

This Week’s Homework: #FindYourWay

Your homework for this week is #FindYourWay. I want you to name a food from that ripped up list at the beginning of the chat and tell us how it can find its way to your plate! Then type it, snap it, share it however you like, and then tag me for your next cool badge!

Don’t forget to do your homework #FindYourWay and tag me when you share on social media!

Extra Credit: Summer Salad Series – Baked Tofu Mediterranean Salad

I’ve had a lot of you mention that you’re curious about making tofu, so we’re going to make it together tonight and incorporate it into a delicious summer salad!

For tonight’s recipe we’re going to start with making our baked tofu. Start with extra firm tofu, drain it, wrap the tofu in a clean cloth (like cheesecloth), and put something heavy on top. The cloth should soak up a significant amount of moisture. Cube the tofu (roughly ½” thick), place the cubes in a bowl, and spritz with olive oil. Add liquid aminos, nutritional yeast, and cornstarch to your bowl. Toss until well coated and place your tofu cubes flat on a baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes, flipping at the 15 minute mark.

While your tofu is baking, you can begin to prepare the rest of the salad. I’m using a large bed of mixed greens for the base of my salad (mine is prepackaged but this would be great with fresh greens!) To that base I’m adding a can of chickpeas, a can of artichoke hearts (roughly diced), mild banana pepper rings, sliced kalamata olives, cucumber, and finally I’ll top the salad with my baked tofu and dressing!

This delicious and refreshing salad is perfect for tomorrow’s lunch or your next family gathering – just be sure to wait on adding the dressing until you’re ready to serve.

Drop a comment below and let us know what you think of the Mediterranean salad and how you plan to enjoy it!
