WW (Weight Watchers) Chat #182: When You Build a Habit

Last week in Chat #181: Lower Your SmartPoints in the Kitchen, we talked about making it easier to make healthy choices by surrounding ourselves with healthy options and swapping out some of our higher point favorite foods for low point alternatives.

Your homework was #smartpointswapout – let’s see how you did!

  • Lynn swaps in low-fat cottage cheese with a packet of dry Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix and blends until smooth. She stores this in the fridge in a mason jar and uses it on baked potatoes, salads, or as a dip. The only points are for the cottage cheese!
  • Carol Lou keeps our That Man’s recipes on their toes. I will try to recreate and post her recipe soon but she swapped ground turkey for full fat sausage and came up with a low-point Scottish egg!
  • Haley continues to “suffer” by swapping out Greek yogurt for sour cream in an avocado crema recipe to go on her Mahi Mahi tacos with homemade pico.

Bravo ladies, you nailed it!

This Week’s Topic: When You Build a Habit

The idea of “turning over a new leaf” as we travel down a new path in life is one that most of us are familiar with. But finding a new path doesn’t necessarily mean we’re running away from something bad. It could just mean that our life is taking a different course and we need to adjust.

We’ve all gotten plenty of practice with that during the pandemic!

Thankfully, we can train our brains to new habits! Our brains have neuroplasticity which allows us to create habits over time through repeated actions or choices.

When you set out on a new path you’ll want to do three things: 1) pinpoint the old path, 2) choose a new path, and 3) hold yourself accountable to following through.

This Week’s Homework: #newpath

Your homework this week is #newpath. Grab a pen and paper and jot down answer to the following:

  1. What is your big picture goal?
  2. Name something from your old path
  3. Choose your new path
  4. Make a plan to make it happen

Extra Credit: Mel’s Mexican Chicken Casserole Recipe

Coming back to last week’s #smartpointswapout homework, we’re spending our extra credit time today making a “swapped out” version of a delicious Chicken Casserole originally created by my childhood best friend, Melanie (click here for the full recipe)

To make it easy to remember your favorite swaps, we’ve created printables that you can purchase from our shop:

And for reference, here’s how I used my Recipe Swap Out printable for making healthy choices in this extra credit:
